A meteor was captured on the camera sped through the night sky above the capital of Chile Santiago. The scholars from Concepcion University confirmed that the phenomenon, recorded on July 7, was a small stone body that was burned when entering the Earth’s atmosphere, reporting the BBC.
The meteor crossed the sky and opened a large flashlight in the city of Santiago. Citing authority, local media outlets report that the meteor is destroyed into several parts before disappearing in the Andes region.
Brazilian media outlets TNH1 reported that city residents heard the sound of meteors across the atmosphere as if it was a thunder explosion. Separately, Astronomer Juan Carlos Beamin, from the Astronomy Chili Foundation, told me that the Santiago crossing meteor was called “T12.Cl.”.
Mr Beamin explained that the flash was burning because, after entering the atmosphere even “stone, or small stone, due to friction with air, burning and glowing”. “We talked about a speed of 10,000 kilometers per hour,” he added.
Meanwhile, a meteor of the appearance in Chile came on the same day, a fireball like a meteor burned crossing the sky above Wellington, New Zealand. According to Reuters, the witness reported to hear a loud explosion and see the flash when the object passed.
Alan Gilmore, an astronomer in Mount John Observatory, Canterbury University, said that a meteor that dropped to the atmosphere at high speed above urban areas is a rare event. He then described the meteor and said, “This shines so bright so that it must be a big enough object.” Mr. Gilmore also told me that the explosion that people heard showed that the meteor had come within 60 km from Earth.
