Dubai: Iran submitted a request to become a member of the group of emerging economies known as BRICS, an Iranian official said on Monday.
Iran’s membership in the BRICS group, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, “would lead to additional values for both parties,” said the spokesperson for Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Russian Ministry of Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said separately that Argentina also applied to join the group. Argentinian officials could not be joined for an immediate comment.
Argentinian president Alberto Fernandez, currently in Europe, has reiterated his desire for Argentina in recent days to join the BRICS.
“While the White House thought of what extinguishes others in the world, Ban or Sput, Argentina and Iran applied to join the BRICS,” wrote Zakharova on the Telegram messaging application.
Russia has long pushed to forge narrower links with Asia, South America and the Middle East, but it recently intensified its efforts to mix the sanctions imposed by Europe, the United States and D ‘Other countries about his invasion in Ukraine.
